初めましてラジミンスキージェイリンと申します。Hey! My name is Jalyn, and I am an undergrad at Emory University majoring in international relations and linguistics. I love running, swimming, acting, debating, giving speeches, and making music ( I play violin, flute, trombone, euphonium, and a little piano). I am involved in Issues Troupe, Emory's Track & Cross Country team, and the Emory Wind Ensemble. You will also typically find me at different cultural and social justice events, or hanging out in the multicultural office or modern language building talking about a research project I am doing. I was inspired to research this topic because of my family's multiracial/multiethnic background (Japanese, African-American, Native American, & Polish) and I am a multidialectal/multilingual speaker (Japanese, Midwestern, Ebonics). Please feel free to contact me or visit my blog. よろしくお願いします。Please visit my blog Here. I currently do not have a major, as I am undecided. Ever since I was a child, I had an innate interest in language, specifically Chinese and English. When I was 5 years old, I began attending Great Wall Chinese School (GWCS) to learn my parent's native language, Mandarin Chinese. However, since I didn't constantly speak the language outside of class, since I went to a predominantly English-speaking school, I did not gain the proficiency required to have an in-depth conversation with native Chinese speakers. In turn, I began code-mixing Chinese and English to help make up for my lack of Chinese skills. As a college student, I decided to pick up where I left off and am now enrolled in the Chinese language track for heritage speakers. This way, I can gain a more comprehensive understanding of both my language and culture. As a Chinese-American, I think it's important to embrace one's identity, particularly when it comes to race; knowing one's native language is just a piece of it, but wholly exploring the nuances between language and culture is the bigger picture.
