jingru zhaoJingru is currently a first year student at Emory University living in Raoul Hall. Her multilingual experience started when she moved to the U.S. when she was 11 years old. Before then, she lived in Chongqing, China, one of the biggest cities in the country. Located in Southern/ Central China, the people of Chongqing are known for their "spicy" attitudes, as they are incredibly motivated and driven. Jingru relates that the personalities of the people of Chongqing match their cuisine, which is famous for being incredibly spicy. Like many families that have immigrated to America, Jingru's mother wanted her to have the best opportunities, both academically and career-wise. Currently, Jingru is studying Economics and Pre-med, and her dream is to eventually become a doctor.

donald liFirst year student Donald Li currently lives in Raoul Hall, and is very passionate about business. His multilingual experience began relatively recently, as last semester was the first time he came to the U.S. For 17 years, Donald lived in Shanghai, one of the most famous cities in China. He was very excited to take part in this project, as he is also very interested in the nuances of the subcultures of China. As a child, Donald could not speak Mandarin at all and was more accustomed to his native dialect of Shanghainese. However, he eventually was forced to learn Mandarin because of it is nationally known as the Standard Chinese dialect and lingua franca of China. Now, Donald feels most comfortable code-switching between Shanghainese and Mandarin with many of the other international Shanghai students at Emory. Donald Li dreams of becoming a businessman someday, and perhaps apply his knowledge of the U.S. and China to help him do so.
